Uganda’s music community has been plunged into deep sorrow following the death of Jackline Nassimbwa, the beloved mother of renowned rapper Fik Fameica (born Walukagga Shafik). Ms. Nassimbwa passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2025, after a prolonged illness at Kibuli Muslim Hospital, where she had been receiving treatment for several weeks as her condition deteriorated.
Sources close to the family say the final days were emotionally demanding, with Fameica spending much of his time at the hospital by her side. In the days leading up to her death, the artist had appealed to fans online to pray for his
mother’s recovery — a plea that now resonates as a poignant farewel.
Fik Fameica has often credited his mother with playing a central role in his journey from humble beginnings in Kawempe, Kampala, to becoming one of Uganda’s most influential contemporary artists. Friends recall that she was a constant presence at his concerts and milestone events, offering quiet support away from the limelight.
Tributes have poured in from fellow musicians, industry figures, and fans, with many describing Ms. Nassimbwa as a strong, supportive woman who stood by her son long before fame and fortune came his way. “She was his backbone,” one close associate said, highlighting the deep bond between mother and son.
National Unity Platform leader Bobi Wine attended a vigil for the late Ms. Nassimbwa and used the occasion to highlight challenges in Uganda’s healthcare system, lamenting that better medical care might have altered her outcome. He stressed that many Ugandans continue to lose loved ones to treatable conditions due to systemic healthcare gaps.
Fik Fameica has not yet issued a formal public statement, but funeral and burial arrangements have begun, with a vigil scheduled and the burial planned in Kasana-Buikwe, Luwero later this week.
As the music fraternity and fans rally around him, the loss serves as a solemn reminder of the personal sacrifices, love, and family support often hidden behind public success.
